Based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, the 2006 movie tells the tale of aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who lands a job in the fashion industry as an assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the ruthless editor-in-chief of the prestigious Runway magazine. She is quickly thrown into the high-paced world of high fashion, where she eventually transitions from being a sartorial catastrophe to wearing in-demand designer apparel.

Streep’s persona is well known for being modeled after Vogue’s Anna Wintour, who just resigned from her position as the magazine’s editor in chief. Streep received an Academy Award nomination for her role in the film, which made $326 million in total at the global box office.

Variety claims that Hathaway, Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci will all reprise their roles in the sequel. Deadline reported that the ensemble now includes Kenneth Branagh, who will portray Priestly’s spouse. According to the outlet, the sequel follows Priestly as she deals with the fall of print.

Deadline initially broke the news about the follow-up to The Devil Wears Prada in 2024. The newspaper said that Disney had just begun development on the film’s sequel and that Aline Brosh McKenna, the co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, had been chosen to pen the screenplay. Additionally, according to sources, there were discussions about the return of the original movie’s director, David Frankel, and its producer, Wendy Finerman.

Previously, Hathaway expressed doubt that The Devil Wears Prada 2 would ever be produced.

In an interview with V Magazine in 2024, she stated, “Probably not.” “We all love one another, and I believe that we would all be insane not to if someone could figure out a way to make it happen. However, technology has transformed the globe, and one of the features of that specific tale is that it centered on the creation of a tangible thing. It would be quite different now that so much is digital.
